About me

I have always loved art. The process of turning a blank sheet of paper (or other material) into a painting has always fascinated me. If that painting invites the viewer to want to spend time looking at it ‐ that it offers perhaps a reflection of an emotion, or takes them to a place they would like to be or simply is just very pleasing to look at ‐ then that feels very satisfying.

For my painting I particularly love the beauty that exists in landscapes and animals. I love capturing detail so I can absorb the wonderful intricacies of nature and feel like I really get to know the subject (particularly wildlife). I particularly love the bright colours of the Mediterrean and the wonderful light! I fit in what sketching time I can when abroad and take lots of photos! I then work on the final piece back home so I am not rushed in my final piece. This may be worked on from single or multiple photo references alongside available sketches. I invariably enhance and modify these colours to achieve the mood and light and shade effects I am hoping to achieve.

I am also interested in developing my wildlife collection more and, in some areas, contributiong a small amount of sales proceeds to animal welfare charities - more information can be found here.

I am a member of two local art Societies as indicated below and very much enjoy taking part in their activities. I have also been lucky enough to win a few awards over the years as shown further down the page.

I studied and worked in Graphic and Web Design and much enjoyed some time in this field. Now, however, I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity of spending more time in what I love ‐ turning that blank canvas into a painting!

Cookham Arts Club

I have been a member of the Cookham Arts Club for over 10 years now. Formed in 1941 it has an established history with links to many national artists and is a well   known part of Cookham. The club holds two regular exhibitions a year in March and August and often gets involved in local events such as the Cookham Festival and other special events that occur from time to time.

Marlow Arts Trail

I am a member of the Marlow Arts Trail which was founded by a group of local artists in 2020 and represents many local artists in and around Marlow including painters, potters, poets, wood turners and glass artists! They hold at least two events a year and are an established part of the community.

Find out more about the Marlow Arts Trail on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

Awards

I was absolutely delighted to be one of the 50 shortlisted artists for the British Art Prize 2023 for my painting 'Reflections at Pin Mill' as shown below.

The paintings were exhibited in the Oxo Tower in London and I spent a wonderful preview evening seeing a beautiful range of paintings and meeting the other artists!
