Gathering storm

A donation to the Greek Cat Welfare Society will be made as indicated in the boxes below. Please see further down for information about the charity.

I love visiting Greece but the only thing that fills me with great sadness is the plight of the stray cats with their daily struggles particularly in the winter.

I wanted to start a series of paintings based on actual cats I have seen in Greece in the hope of selling originals, prints and cards from this series where I can make contributions to the charity (as shown below).

With this particular painting when I was walking along I saw this cat on the wall just staring out to sea (as they like to do!). It was a stormy night and this inspired me to paint this.

It is more muted in colour than usual but I wanted to keep a hint of brightness in the sky as an essence of what was fading as the storm was brewing. To me this painting represents not just the onset of a storm one night and the fading summer but the onset of the winter struggles for the cats in Greece (without tourists and charities to help feed them).

The original painting is Acrylic painted on a stretched canvas. The original painting is sold.

Limited Edition Prints

This image has a limited edition run of no more than 50 prints and will be personally signed and numbered. A certificate of authenticity will also be supplied.

My standard process of signing is to sign on the reverse of the print with the print number and the image itself will contain the signature. A white margin of 0.3" will be around the print to allow for attaching to a mount. If you prefer a print to be signed and numbered on the front please contact me and we can discuss the options.

The print is supplied as print only and does not include a mount or frame.

*The maximum size available is 11" x 11". Smaller prints are available as part of the limited edition count. Please contact me if you have a particular size in mind for a quote.

The prints are Giclee fine art prints and printed on a high quality art paper called Hahnemuehle German Etching at a good quality weight of 310gsm. The paper has a light texture to it to bring out the original texture of an acrylic painting or imitate the texture of an original watercolour painting. The paper has archival qualities. Combined with a fade resistant archival ink, it should give a print life of around 80+ years.

As with any work of art placing the item in direct sunlight can cause fading and therefore this should be avoided. Additionally, it is recommended that any materials you use for mounting and framing should be acid‐free to avoid possible yellowing over time.
